How Much Do Real Estate Agents Make?

Written by Tessa Sims

Whether you are just entering the job market or considering a career switch, the title of Real Estate Agent is ideal for many. The Real Estate Agent benefits list is long, including choosing your own hours, job security, and considerable earning potential. Choosing a career path may seem daunting, so researching a career’s industry is essential. If you have contemplated joining the millions who have found success in Real Estate, you may have asked yourself, “How much does a Real Estate Agent earn?” The answer can be found after considering several key factors.

What Does a Real Estate Agent’s Income Depend On?

A career in real estate has considerable potential for success and earning potential. However, not every Real Estate Agent will see the same income rate. A Real Estate Agent’s income depends on a collection of factors and dedication.

Longer Hours Sees Higher Earnings

One of the main benefits of becoming a Real Estate Agent is the ability to choose your own schedule. However, it is important to note the number of hours put into real estate directly correlates with an agent’s earning potential. When a Real Estate Agent works longer hours, they spend more time with their clients and are more likely to close more sales and grab additional new property listings. On average, Real Estate Agents who work 40 to 50 hours a week can anticipate earning roughly $113k annually. In contrast, agents who choose to work between 51 and 60 hours per week tend to bring in around $143k annually. While contemplating these incomes, it is important to remember that other factors can still increase or decrease an agent’s earnings.

Choosing a Real Estate Agent Area of Specialty

The average income for a Real Estate Agent is often hard to pinpoint, as an Agent’s area of preference and expertise influences what they earn. Different Real Estate Agents may have different income levels due to which type of properties they specialize in selling. For example, a commercial Real Estate Agent would likely see a higher income than that of a Real Estate Agent who strictly specializes in residential properties. Additionally, Agents who work primarily with luxury homes, green properties, and investment properties usually have a higher yearly wage than those who do not.

Years of Experience and Honed Expertise

As with many careers, Real Estate Agents with more experience earn more money. In other words, what a Real Estate Agent earns in their first few years likely will not reflect what they will be earning several years down the road. Over the years, a successful Real Estate Agent will have built a substantial clientele and collected crucial insight into the real estate market. Their gained knowledge will become a critical factor in retaining business with repeat sales, as well as in retaining new clients through word of mouth.

Real Estate Agents with a range of business connections have plenty of people helping them drum up clients. The longer someone works in an industry, the more time they have spent collecting professional connections. Agents with positive working relationships and interactions keep their careers moving forward.

How Can You Make More as A Real Estate Agent?

The most successful agents often have a deep understanding of their local real estate market and can use that knowledge to help their clients make informed decisions. They are also skilled at building relationships with clients and other industry professionals, which can help generate more business and higher commissions. Additionally, they are proactive and always looking for ways to improve their skills and knowledge, which can help them stay ahead of the competition. By focusing on these key areas, real estate agents can increase their earnings and achieve higher levels of success in their careers.
